Nestled in the heart of Galloway, near Glentrool and Newton Stewart, Bruce's Crown is an epic 46-mile trail running adventure that winds through some of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes. This challenging race takes runners across three distinct hill ranges: Minningaff Hills, Rhinns of Kells, and the formidable Awful Hand. The route features over 4000 meters of elevation gain, making it a true test for even the most seasoned trail runners. The terrain is rugged, with few marked paths requiring participants to navigate through challenging underfoot conditions. Along the way, three manned food checkpoints provide essential sustenance in the form of hot soup and hearty meals. Participants can opt to run solo or as part of teams ranging from two to four members. Teammates must remain together throughout the race, checking into each checkpoint collectively to be eligible for team prizes. The event is designed with safety in mind; Mountain Rescue Teams (MRT) are stationed on all three hill ranges to ensure runners’ well-being. With a 24-hour overall cutoff and two intermediate time limits along the course, Bruce's Crown challenges participants both mentally and physically. Clear weather rewards runners with panoramic views stretching from the Southern Highlands to the north, across the Lake District and Snowdonia to the south, Moffat and Border hills to the east, and even reaching as far west as the Mountains of Mourne. To secure a spot in this exclusive race, interested participants must first register through a pre-selection list. No payment is required initially; if selected by the event organizers, runners will receive an email inviting them to confirm their entry with a fee. All proceeds from Bruce's Crown go towards supporting and developing Galloway Mountain Rescue Team’s new base. Runners are encouraged to purchase XCover insurance for peace of mind, providing a refund in case unforeseen circumstances prevent attendance on race day. Join the ranks of trail runners who have come to experience this unique blend of natural beauty and physical challenge at Bruce's Crown. The event is not only about pushing personal limits but also contributing positively to an essential community service through fundraising efforts for Galloway Mountain Rescue Team, ensuring that these dedicated volunteers can continue their vital work in Southwest Scotland.
