Trail runners looking for an unforgettable experience should mark their calendars for the Buckeye Sun & Moon Trail Runs, taking place on Saturday, August 8 at Alum Creek State Park in Galena, Ohio. This unique event offers both daytime and nighttime trail running options, providing a versatile choice to suit every runner's preference. The morning edition of the Buckeye Sun Trails invites early risers to enjoy a scenic run along with participants of the Last Buckeye Backyard Ultra. The course is an enchanting loop that winds through Alum Creek State Park’s lush trails and alongside the serene reservoir, offering runners breathtaking views at sunrise. For those who prefer their runs under the stars, the Buckeye Moon Trails presents a night-time adventure filled with stunning nighttime scenery of Alum Creek Reservoir. This event features small LED lights along the trail to guide participants through the course safely in low light conditions. Headlamps or running lights are mandatory for this segment. Runners can choose from four distances: 7 kilometers, 13 kilometers, 20 kilometers, and a challenging 26 kilometers. Each lap of approximately 4.167 miles is part of a figure-8 course that winds through the park’s varied terrain, with rolling hills providing both challenge and beauty. All participants will receive an electronic chip timing via MyLaps for accurate results and can look forward to crossing the finish line to collect their commemorative medals. Top overall male and female runners in each distance category are recognized with awards, as well as age group winners who stand out across 14 different divisions ranging from ages 14U up to those over 80. Event shirts are available for purchase during registration but are not included in the entry fee. These soft tri-blend custom event shirts come in either red or black and make a great addition to any runner's wardrobe. Parking is conveniently located at Galena Boat Ramp off Africa Road, with ample space designated specifically for race participants. The Buckeye Sun & Moon Trail Runs offer more than just a run; it’s an opportunity to connect with nature and fellow trail enthusiasts in the heart of Ohio’s stunning landscapes. Whether you're tackling one lap or all four, this event promises excitement and memorable moments on every step. Participants can enjoy post-race refreshments at the finish line spread while soaking up the camaraderie and celebrating their achievement among friends and family.
