Buffalo River Gran Fondo, set for October 3, 2026, invites cyclists to explore the stunning landscapes of Amherst, Virginia. The race begins and ends at Second Stage, nestled within the picturesque George Washington National Forest. The event offers three exhilarating ride options tailored to different skill levels: 1. The BIG Buffalo - Distance: 108 miles - Elevation Gain: 13,000 feet - Terrain Breakdown: 65% gravel, 35% pavement 2. The Full Monty - Distance: 68 miles - Elevation Gain: Approximately 7,000 feet - Key Climb: Alhambra Road - Ideal for Gravel Bikes or Endurance Road Bikes with Wider Tires (32c and above) 3. Lil’ Shorty - Distance: 32.2 miles - Elevation Gain: Around 2,600 feet - Terrain Breakdown: 80% pavement, 20% gravel Participants can track their routes via Strava or other GPS platforms like RidewithGPS and Garmin for a competitive edge. A unique challenge awaits with the Strava Segment Challenge. Riders who log the lowest combined time across selected segments will vie for the coveted Buffalo Skull trophy. Ensure your ride is recorded in our official Strava club to be eligible. The race weekend kicks off on Friday, October 2, at Loose Shoe Brewery where you can enjoy craft beers and pizza. Free camping is available at the Amherst County Admin Building for both riders and families. On Saturday, gather early as coffee and a light breakfast await before the rides depart at 9:30 AM.
