Join us on Tuesday, January 26, 2027, for the 16th Annual Burleigh Swim Run Australia Day Challenge. This community fitness celebration is presented by our partners at Kollosche and Burleigh Surf Lifesaving Club in front of the Burleigh Lifeguard Headquarters on Burleigh Beach. The event welcomes participants from all walks of life—from kids aged five to adults over sixty, ensuring there's an experience for everyone who loves a challenge or simply enjoys being part of something special. Three exciting events cater to various ages and skill levels: - The Challenge: Participants can take on the ocean with a 400-meter swim followed by a spirited 4-kilometer beach run. For those preferring teamwork, there's also a relay option where one person swims while another runs—perfect for teams of all ages nine years old and up. - The Taste Tester: A fun introduction to swimming and running on the sand, this event features a 200-meter ocean swim or wade (depending on age) followed by a two-kilometer beach run. Ideal for those who want to dip their toes into the world of swim runs without committing fully. - The Young Guns: Tailored specifically for young participants aged five to twelve, this event involves a 400-meter wade in the ocean and then an equally energetic 400-meter beach run. It’s designed to be both fun and safe for our youngest athletes. All events are held within a supportive community atmosphere that encourages participation rather than competition. The day is filled with energy as families come together, celebrating fitness, friendship, and fun on Australia Day. Registration opens Thursday, October 1st, 2026, with only 600 spots available for this unique event. In case of adverse weather conditions, a backup date has been set for Sunday, April 4th, from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. Please note that there are no refunds issued if participants withdraw or the event is canceled in 2027. The Gold Coast, also known by its initials, GC, is a coastal city and region in the state of Queensland, Australia, located approximately 66 kilometres (41 mi) south-southeast of the centre of the state capital, Brisbane.
