The Burralow Bush Run, hosted by Hawkesbury Trail Runners and Running Wild NSW, takes runners through the picturesque landscapes of northwest Sydney. This unique trail running event offers three distinct courses, each offering its own challenges and scenic views. Starting at Bilpin Fruit Bowl, participants can choose from a 16km Short Course or the more ambitious 34km Long Course. The Short Course, known as "The Devil's Dash," weaves through the Devils Wilderness within national park boundaries. Runners will experience an elevation gain of 200m on accessible fire trails while enjoying panoramic views across the Grose Valley. With a start time at 8:15am and a cut-off time of 3.5 hours, this course is perfect for both newcomers to trail running and those aiming to set personal bests. For more seasoned runners or groups looking for a greater challenge, the Long Course—nicknamed "Billy to BoMo"—is an absolute must-run. Spanning 34km with a significant elevation gain of 800m, this course features several out-and-back sections that will test your endurance and mental strength. Runners begin their journey on fire trails down to Burralow Campground before tackling the steep hills up to Kurrajong Heights. The route then takes runners back through Bowen Mountain’s Crago Observatory, offering breathtaking vistas along the way, before returning to the finish line at Bilpin Fruit Bowl. Youngsters aged 6 and above are invited to participate in a separate 1.5km Kids Course within the orchard of the event hub. This course is designed for children from toddlers to teens, with each participant receiving a finisher's medal upon completion. Parents or guardians must accompany participants under 6 years old. The Burralow Bush Run not only provides an exhilarating experience but also supports local communities through non-profit fundraising efforts. Proceeds raised by this event benefit the Bilpin, Kurrajong Heights, and Grose Vale RFS brigades, which play a crucial role in ensuring community safety during emergencies. In 2024, over $10,255 was donated to these essential services; last year's donation amounted to an impressive $15,694.40. This event promises to be the highlight of your trail running calendar for runners of all levels. With its rich history and commitment to community support, don't miss out on this thrilling adventure in nature. The third edition of the Burralow Bush Run is set for Sunday, July 26th, 2026—mark it in your calendars now!
