The BUTS Bearly Ultra invites runners from all walks and experience levels to explore the diverse trails of Alabama. Whether it's your first trail run or you're looking for a personal best, this race offers something unique on Red Mountain. As soon as you step onto the course, you'll encounter a mix of terrain that showcases some of the region’s finest paths. The route includes smooth old rail beds and challenging single-track trails with twists and turns where roots abound. At Ike Trail, runners will face vertical climbs that test their endurance, while BMRR Trails provide opportunities to showcase speed. One highlight is Grace's Gap Overlook, a spot offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. As you traverse through historic mine shafts, your imagination can wander as you ponder what secrets lie within these old structures. Along the way, resist the temptation to rest on inviting chairs and swings that dot parts of the route. The race features one aid station that runners will pass multiple times throughout their journey, providing essential refreshments and a friendly atmosphere every time they visit. The staff at this station is known for creating an enjoyable environment while ensuring you stay well-fueled during your run. As you near the finish line after either 13.5 or 27 miles of adventure, be prepared to celebrate with hot food and cold drinks provided by the organizers. Each participant will receive a distinctive finisher medal that commemorates their Red Mountain experience. Beyond just an athletic challenge, BUTS Bearly Ultra supports local trail maintenance through donations from race entry fees back into Red Mountain Park and other regional parks managed under Jeff Co Greenways. This partnership ensures these natural spaces remain accessible for future generations to enjoy. Registration includes bib pickup on the morning of the event at 7am sharp in Red Mountain Park, where runners will be fitted with HuTags timing devices that work best when worn high up on your ankle. Early start times are available upon request if you anticipate needing more than the standard race window to complete the longer course distance. Join us for an unforgettable day out on some of Alabama's most scenic and varied trails at the BUTS Bearly Ultra. The event celebrates not only athletic achievement but also environmental stewardship, ensuring that these beautiful landscapes remain preserved for all to enjoy.
