The Butterfly Run, organized by the Guardian Angel Hospice Foundation, is a poignant and heartfelt tribute to those who have left an indelible mark on our lives. Now entering its twelfth year, this cherished tradition takes place within the serene beauty of Prophetstown State Park in West Lafayette, Indiana. On Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, community members gather at 9:00 AM to register and prepare for a day filled with reflection, remembrance, and celebration. The event kicks off at 9:45 AM with the Flutter Run, a playful 50-yard dash designed exclusively for children aged ten and under—a free activity that sets an uplifting tone. At 10:15 AM, participants come together to honor loved ones through the Butterfly Reflection & Release ceremony. This moving moment allows each person to pay tribute by whispering messages of love to butterflies before setting them free in memory of those who have passed. It's a deeply personal and symbolic act that encapsulates the essence of remembrance. Following this touching ritual, at 10:30 AM, the main event—a 5K Memorial Walk & Fun Run—begins. Timed runners set off first, followed by family members and friends walking or running at their own pace through Prophetstown State Park's tranquil trails. Throughout the morning, attendees are invited to share stories and reflect on cherished memories in a supportive environment. The Butterfly Run offers various packages tailored for different needs: - The standard entry includes a butterfly release with walk/run ($35) or just the release without participation in the 5K ($25). - A Kaleidoscope Package is available for families, offering event t-shirts and releases for up to four participants at $100. - Individual event T-Shirts can be purchased separately for $15. Registration opens on August 1st, with early sign-ups ensuring guaranteed access to the park gate fee waiver, butterflies, and event shirts. Late registrations are possible but may incur additional costs and potentially exclude certain perks like t-shirts or butterfly releases due to limited availability. The Butterfly Run is a sanctuary of compassion where every step taken honors someone special in our lives. It’s an opportunity for individuals to come together, find solace in shared experiences, and celebrate the enduring legacy left by those no longer with us. About Battle Ground
Learn more about the host city, Battle Ground.
A battlefield, battleground, or field of battle is the location of a present or historic battle involving ground warfare. It is commonly understood to be limited to the point of contact between opposing forces, though battles may involve troops covering broad geographic areas. Although the term implies that battles are typically fought in a field – an open stretch of level ground – it applies to any type of terrain on which a battle is fought. The term can also have legal significance, and battlefields may have substantial historical and cultural value—the battlefield has been described as "a place where ideals and loyalties are put to the test". Various acts and treaties restrict certain belligerent conduct to an identified battlefield. Other legal regimes promote the preservation of certain battlefields as sites of historic importance.
