Experience the grandeur and challenge of the Mourne Mountains at the NIMRA Championship Race & Ulster Championship Race, set against the backdrop of two inspiring summits: Lamagan and Binnian. This race is exclusive to IMRA members who wish to compete for the prestigious Ulster Championship title. The route begins at Black Gate on Carrick Lane, where runners will embark on an unmarked course that winds through rugged terrain, requiring a keen sense of navigation and mountain running expertise. Participants must visit four checkpoints in sequence: Lower Cove Gap, Lamagan Cove Track Summit, Lamagan Summit, and Binnian Summit before returning to the starting point at Black Gate. The journey is both physically demanding and mentally rewarding as you traverse trails that offer breathtaking views and test your endurance against challenging conditions. It's essential for runners to carry minimum safety equipment in accordance with guidelines provided by FRA (Fell Runners Association) on their website, ensuring compliance before race day can prevent disqualification. Pre-race checks will be conducted at the venue. Upon completion of this grueling yet exhilarating course, refreshments await but participants are encouraged to bring reusable cups as no disposable options will be available post-event. Entry fees include a small administrative fee; however, withdrawals up until the entry deadline allow for refunds minus £3 to cover processing costs. The event takes place at the last car park along Carrick Lane from the Head Road direction, with clear signage guiding participants and spectators alike. Parking is available on-site based on vehicle occupancy: £4 per single occupant vehicle, £3 for a two-occupant vehicle, and £2 for those carrying three or more passengers. Should unforeseen circumstances lead to race cancellation, entry fees will be refunded minus the same administrative fee of £3. This event celebrates not just athletic prowess but also respect for nature and safety in mountain environments, inviting runners who are well-prepared and seasoned enough to tackle such a demanding course. Join us on October 03, 2026, as we come together to honor the spirit of adventure and camaraderie that defines this unique challenge.
