Calderdale's Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) invites you to explore the region’s stunning landscapes through their annual 24-mile walk and run. This scenic route winds its way along footpaths, woods, tracks, and fields, offering a mix of terrain that showcases Calderdale’s natural beauty. The event kicks off at Heath Rugby Club near Halifax with refreshments available for participants before they set out on the journey. Throughout the course, runners will encounter picturesque stretches alongside the River Calder and canal, providing serene moments amidst nature's splendor. Midway through, an indoor checkpoint awaits in Ripponden, while other checkpoints are located outdoors along the route. A detailed route description and GPX file will be provided to participants ahead of time, ensuring everyone is well-prepared for their adventure. The event starts at 8:30 am with a generous ten-hour window to complete the course. Upon finishing, all participants receive both a certificate and a memento commemorating their achievement. The starting point also serves as the finish line, offering free car parking on-site at Heath Rugby Club. To minimize waste and reduce plastic usage, organizers encourage attendees to bring reusable cups for drinks throughout the event. LDWA members can take advantage of discounted entry fees: £14 per person compared to £19 for non-members. Membership is open year-round with a cost as low as £15 annually from January through December (https://www.ldwa.org.uk/membership/join/join.php). Additionally, any young participant under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult guardian or parent. This event offers more than just physical challenge; it’s an opportunity to connect with nature and the community while enjoying a day of adventure in Calderdale's scenic countryside.
