Capel 5 and Fun Run 2026 (incorporating the Suffolk Grand Prix)

The Capel 5, an annual running event set against the picturesque backdrop of Suffolk, invites runners aged 15 and older for a scenic journey through open countryside roads. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am on the day, with participants gathering at Race HQ located in the pavilion at Friars, Capel St Mary.
Race numbers and timing chips can be collected from Race HQ between 8:30 am and 10:00 am. Runners should make their way to the start line approximately 15 minutes before the race begins, following announcements made by event staff. The course itself is designed for safety with no headphones or earpods allowed; any runner found wearing them will be disqualified.
Toilet facilities are available within Race HQ and additional portaloos can be accessed on the playing fields nearby. A designated bag drop area ensures that runners have peace of mind knowing their belongings are secure while they focus on the race.
Food and drink stations will be set up throughout the morning, offering refreshments to all participants and spectators alike, with proceeds going towards charity. Parking is conveniently located in an overflow car park next to Bypass Nurseries Garden Centre on London Road (IP9 2JR), a short two-minute walk from Race HQ. Additional parking spots are available directly at the playing fields off of London Road opposite Bypass nurseries.
Marshals will be present at both locations to guide runners and ensure everyone arrives safely for race day. Participants are encouraged to carpool where possible, helping minimize congestion around the event area.
The Capel 5 is chip-timed, ensuring accurate results for all competitors. Prizes will be awarded in various categories, making it an exciting addition to the Suffolk Grand Prix series as well.
In conjunction with the main race, a children’s 1-mile Fun Run kicks off at 9:45 am on the playing field around marked routes entirely within the safety of the grounds. Children can participate independently or accompanied by a responsible adult if needed. All young runners will receive a medal and treat upon completion, along with prizes in select categories.
Runners are advised to check their email for detailed instructions leading up to race day, ensuring they have all necessary information at hand before arriving.
Participants should be aware of the strict no headphone policy on the course for safety reasons. This ensures that everyone can hear important announcements and stay alert throughout the event.
