Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge

About the Event

The Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge returns for its 9th year on July 18, 2026. Spanning three distances—100K, 50K, and 25K—the race invites cyclists to explore the rugged beauty of Carrabassett Valley's unspoiled forests and mountains. The courses feature a mix of technical single track, double track, and dirt roads, offering steep climbs and exhilarating descents.
Participants can register online starting February 1, 2026, with early bird rates until May 18. Fees include entry into the race, one official T-shirt for each distance, feed station food and beverages, SAG wagon support, a post-race meal ticket, complimentary campsite access at Sugarloaf Outdoor Center on Friday night, door prizes, and awards to top finishers.
For the 25K event, riders aged 10 and older are welcome; those between 10 and 11 must be accompanied by an adult who does not need to register. The race caps at 600 participants across all distances, with a majority of extra spots reserved for women in the Women's 50K and 25K categories.
The event will offer multiple start times: 8 AM for the 100K, 10 AM for the 50K, and 11 AM for the 25K. A strict time limit requires all participants to reach the final feed station by 3:30 PM; those arriving later must return to Sugarloaf Outdoor Center.
Stay tuned as race course details will be announced after necessary spring and summer trail repairs are completed. The Western Maine Center for Children Kids Race will also take place, with multiple heats of various distances and age groups for children aged 2 to 12, including a fun race for kids under 6 on balance or pedal bikes.
Volunteers play a crucial role in making the event possible; interested individuals can sign up through Bikereg. The CBCC provides meals at Sugarloaf Outdoor Center: Friday night dinner specials and a post-race meal with vegetarian and meat options available, based on registration choices.
Cash prizes will be awarded to top finishers, and T-shirts are included for all registrants. Additional T-shirts and swag can be purchased during the race weekend. Free car and tent camping is provided at Sugarloaf Outdoor Center as part of your entry fee, with car camping in the lower parking lot area and tent sites near the "stadium" field.
