Cate’s Run is back this year as an inspiring 10K journey through the picturesque Hertfordshire countryside, celebrating the life of Cate Stevens-Dewey. Held annually to mark her birthday and raise awareness for mental health advocacy, this event honors a woman who fought tirelessly against stigma while battling anxiety and depression until her untimely passing in December 2024 at just 31 years old. This year’s run/walk is designed to be inclusive of all abilities, welcoming both runners and walkers aged 16 and above. The route offers stunning views along the River Lea and through lush green landscapes with only a couple of inclines to break up its mostly flat terrain. Participants will enjoy two loops each covering five kilometers before returning to The Chauncy School where Cate once studied. The event is fully timed, ensuring an organized start that minimizes congestion on the route by grouping runners according to their predicted finish times. All participants are asked to complete the course within 2 hours and 30 minutes. Along the way, you’ll find aid stations providing water at both loops’ halfway points as well as at the start/finish line. Upon registration, each runner will receive a PAPYRUS wristband along with information about how their contribution supports this vital cause dedicated to preventing young suicide. At the finish line, all participants are awarded a full-color Cate’s Run medal that serves as a lasting reminder of your achievement and support for mental health awareness. The Chauncy School offers essential amenities like toilets, changing rooms, and hot showers at its event HQ where qualified first aiders will be stationed should you need assistance. Informal bag storage is available but valuables are best left behind to ensure safety. To make the most of this meaningful day, runners can enjoy post-race refreshments such as sweet treats, cold drinks, tea, and coffee while reflecting on their journey around Cate’s Run. We encourage participants to consider walking or car-sharing options due to limited parking availability at The Chauncy School in order to minimize disruption for local residents. Join us this year not just to run but also to remember Cate together by raising funds and awareness for PAPYRUS, a UK charity dedicated to preventing young suicide. Let’s come together as one community committed to breaking down barriers surrounding mental health. We look forward to seeing you at Cate's Run where every step counts towards making a difference in the lives of those affected by anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.
