About the Event

The Catherine Creek Classic returns on August 1, 2026, marking its 40th anniversary as one of the most beloved races in Oregon. This scenic and fast-paced event offers runners an unforgettable experience with stunning views along Catherine Creek.
Participants can choose from three distances: a mile run, a 5K race, or a half marathon. The main draw is undoubtedly the half marathon course, which features a gentle downhill slope that leads to some of the fastest times in Oregon. Starting at dawn and winding through lush landscapes, runners will enjoy breathtaking scenery as they make their way up Catherine Creek.
Registration for this year’s event takes place on-site at Union High School (540 S Main St, Union, OR 97883) with early morning check-ins starting from 5:45 AM. For the half marathon participants, a bus will transport runners to the start line up Catherine Creek by 6:20 AM sharp. The race itself begins promptly at 7:00 AM for those taking on the longer distances.
The shorter races offer similar charm and excitement. At 8:20 AM, the 5K race kicks off with a scenic loop that showcases the beauty of Union’s surroundings before concluding back at the high school. For those looking to enjoy a quick run in the morning air, the mile event starts right after at 9:00 AM.
Entry fees are modest but increase on race day for last-minute registrants. Early online registration ends on Friday, July 31st, with prices rising by $5 per distance thereafter. Families can also register together to receive a deep discount, making it an excellent option for groups of all sizes.
Race participants have the opportunity to purchase commemorative shirts and limited edition collector's pins at checkout. These items are available online before July 20th to ensure availability; however, quantities will be strictly monitored on race day with only a few extras sold.
Awards await top finishers in each age group and gender category for both the half marathon and shorter races. Medals go to the overall winners while ribbons recognize second through third place competitors (excluding medal recipients). To claim these accolades, athletes must either be present at the ceremony or have a representative there on their behalf.
Safety measures include designated water stations every three miles along the half marathon route with one station integrated into the 5K course. For those taking part in the longer event, restroom facilities are available early during the bus ride to Catherine Creek State Park and remain accessible throughout the race at around mile five.
