The Cedar Mountain Rally 5K & 10K returns to Rapidan, Virginia on Saturday, September 26th, offering runners a chance to support the Cedar Mountain Battlefield Foundation’s mission of preserving and interpreting this historic site. Participants will start their journey from the heart of the Cedar Mountain Battlefield Park in Rapidan. This park is more than just a battlefield; it's also a nature reserve with diverse wildflowers and birds. The atmosphere on race morning finds runners surrounded by the serene beauty of well-maintained trails, perfect for both novice and experienced athletes. The event marks CMBF’s first organized run since its inception, having been established to maintain this community asset through donations and proceeds from events such as this one. Since 2016, it has grown significantly, attracting over a hundred participants each year who not only enjoy the scenic course but also contribute financially towards preserving Cedar Mountain Battlefield. The race offers both distance options for runners of all abilities: the 5K and the 10K. Each path winds through wooded and open areas, providing a mix of firm and slightly soft terrain that creates an engaging experience on the day of the event. Runners will start at the Cedar Mountain Battlefield Park on Race Street in Rapidan, Virginia. The course layout includes both uphill climbs and downhill descents, with several notable features such as a bridge crossing over a small stream and a scenic overlook point offering panoramic views. Aid stations are strategically placed along the route to ensure hydration and nutrition stops for participants. Race day weather conditions will be typical of early September in Rapidan: expect firm but slightly soft trail conditions under moderate UV index, making it essential that runners wear appropriate clothing layers and sunscreen.

About Rapidan
Learn more about the host city, Rapidan.
Rapidan is a small unincorporated community in the Virginia counties of Culpeper and Orange, approximately five miles (8 km) northeast of the Town of Orange. The community, located on both sides of the Rapidan River, was established in the late eighteenth century around the Waugh's Ford mill. The Orange and Alexandria Railroad built a line through the town in 1854, a post office was built at the river crossing, and its name was changed to Rapid Ann Station. Milling remained a major industry in the area up through the mid-twentieth century.
