Embrace the trails of Cheyenne Mountain State Park at this year's Achilles Pikes Peak Trail Race, an event dedicated to supporting athletes with disabilities and fostering a sense of community among runners. The scenic beauty of Colorado Springs offers some of the best running terrain in the Front Range. The race features four courses: 50K, 25K, 7 miles, and 4 miles, each winding through grassy meadows and dense forests beneath Cheyenne Mountain's granite face. Runners will encounter a mix of runnable trails with some rocky sections to keep them engaged throughout the course. Packet pickup is available on Friday from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Colorado Running Company or race day starting at 7 a.m. in the Limekiln Trailhead parking lot. Race-day activities begin promptly at 8 a.m., with plenty of space for runners and spectators alike. The course layout is designed as a "figure eight," allowing participants to start, finish, and access drop bags near its central intersection. The longer distances offer additional opportunities to explore the diverse landscapes around Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Elevation gain reaches approximately 4,000 feet over the challenging yet rewarding terrain. While there are no age group awards, all runners will receive a tech T-shirt and coffee mug as part of their entry package. Additionally, top male and female finishers in both the 50K and 25K categories earn prize money along with medals for first through third place overall and masters winners in each race. Achilles Pikes Peak Trail Race is committed to accessibility, offering free entries to visually impaired runners and their guides who register using a special comp entry code. These athletes are recognized within separate divisions as well as the general rankings, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to shine on race day. Volunteers play a crucial role in making this event successful by supporting both the running community and Achilles Pikes Peak's mission. Those interested can contact Tim Bergsten at tim.bergsten@gmail.com for more information or to sign up. The park provides ample parking near the start line, and families are welcome to enjoy the day with picnic areas available post-race. A fenced playground ensures kids have a safe space to play while parents participate in the event. Aid stations along the course offer water, Gatorade, and snacks for runners throughout their journey. Participants should bring any additional beverages they prefer as these will not be provided beyond what is listed. Cheyenne Mountain State Park's natural beauty provides an ideal backdrop for this inclusive race, welcoming all levels of athletes to experience Colorado’s trails in a supportive environment.
