Chilly Cheeks 5K

Discover one of the most unique and entertaining 5K races in Texas at Star Ranch. Held annually since 1997, the Bare Buns Run 5K Fun Run takes place every spring, followed by the Chilly Cheeks 5K Run each fall. Both events are official qualifiers for the AANR-SW 5K Series and cater to a limited number of participants—200 runners per race—to maintain an intimate atmosphere.
The Star Ranch course winds through picturesque McDade, located about 30 minutes east of Austin on US Highway 290. The initial portion of the run features serene rural landscapes with open pastures and shaded woodland trails for three kilometers. As you progress further into the ranch, runners encounter sand and gravel paths that connect member-owned cottages and cabins before finishing at Star Ranch's pool.
Post-race activities include a relaxed atmosphere where participants can unwind by cooling off in the pool or enjoying grilled meals while awaiting race results. Each runner registration includes one guest pass, allowing friends to join for an entire day of fun games and socializing.
