This USA Cycling-sanctioned race is not just about competition; it’s an immersive celebration of cycling and community in one of America's most historic cities. The event kicks off with the District of Columbia Criterium Championship and MABRA Category Criterium Championship, serving as a thrilling penultimate stop for the 2026 MABRA Road Series. Expect high-level bike racing alongside live music, local food and retail vendors, and a beer garden that promises to enhance your race day experience. The venue, The Fields at RFK Campus – Lot 6 (401 Oklahoma Ave NE), offers free parking onsite with additional options along adjacent streets. For those preferring public transportation, the nearest DC Metro station is Stadium-Armory (Blue/Orange/Silver Lines). Bikers can also access it via the Anacostia River Trail and Benning Road. Registration fees vary: - Early Bird Pricing: $50 from April 1 to May 15 - Standard Pricing: $65 from May 16 to August 13 - Day-of Registration: $75 (closes 30 minutes before each race) Juniors can participate for just $25, and the Kids Race is free. Pre-registration closes on Thursday, August 13, at 10:30 AM; late/Day-of registration will open again from 8:30 PM until event day. Chocolate City Criterium ensures equal race durations and prize purses for men’s and women’s categories when there are more than 25 participants. Lesser numbers result in reduced payouts, with medals awarded if the count falls below ten. All racers must hold a valid USA Cycling license; one-day licenses can be purchased through BikeReg. The race is held rain or shine under USA Cycling rules. Free lap support and neutral wheel pits are available to ensure smooth racing conditions. For safety reasons, no aero bars are allowed in mass start events, and helmets are mandatory at all times on the course. To qualify for District of Columbia Championship titles, riders must hold an active annual USA Cycling license and reside within the DMV region. MABRA Category Championship eligibility requires current USA Cycling licensing with residency or affiliation to a MABRA-affiliated club. These details can be updated through your USA Cycling and BikeReg accounts before event day. Chocolate City Criterium is also part of the 2026 MABRA Road Series, making it an exciting opportunity for riders aiming to secure series championships.
