Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Coln River valley, nestled between the charming villages of Coln St Aldwyns and Bibury, Friends of Hatherop Primary School is excited to present its upcoming trail run series on September 6th. This event promises a delightful experience for runners of all ages and abilities. The race day will feature three distances: a fun-filled 2km steeplechase, a scenic 5km route, and an extended 10km course that showcases the area's natural beauty. The starting point is by Yew Tree Lodge in Coln St Aldwyns (GL7 5AJ), with ample parking available on fields adjacent to the River Coln at the bottom of the village. The event kicks off with registration from 8:30 AM, followed by a fun-filled morning that includes awards ceremonies for all categories. The 2km steeplechase starts promptly at 10:00 AM and is designed as an engaging cross-country route through undulating grassy fields. This course features hay bale hurdles and the challenging 'dip of doom', culminating in a final climb up 'heartbreak hill'. Ideal for kids and adults alike, it's sure to provide plenty of fun. For those seeking longer distances, the 5km and 10km routes begin at 11:00 AM. Both courses start with a short ascent out of the valley before traversing gently rolling terrain through lush grass pastures. The 10km route takes runners on an intriguing figure-eight pattern that includes a visit to Bibury, known for its iconic Arlington Row cottages—a must-see spot but be prepared to dodge tourists! All participants will find clear trail markers guiding their way and can enjoy hydration stations along the course with water and jelly babies. Post-race refreshments include a hearty BBQ and an abundance of cake available at the finish line. Entry on race day is possible if spaces are still available, though there's an additional £2 charge for late entries. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female runners in various categories: overall winners for all three distances as well as age-specific awards for U8 participants in the 2km event and over-50s in the 10km. Participants are encouraged to visit local pubs like The New Inn or Keepers Arms after their run, making this a perfect day out. Support from sponsors such as Kokoro Health, Minster Cleaning, and The Environmental Dimensions Partnership ensures all proceeds go directly towards Hatherop Primary School's Big Build Project. This event is not just about the race itself; it’s an opportunity to enjoy the stunning Cotswold scenery while supporting a great cause. Don’t miss out on this memorable day of running in one of England’s most beautiful valleys!
