Community Strong Race Weekend

The Community Strong Race Weekend returns to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on June 20th and 21st in 2026, bringing together runners of all kinds for a weekend filled with races that support the AFS Foundation's mission to promote mental health awareness.
Nestled along the banks of the St. Marys River, Sault Ste. Marie offers a vibrant backdrop for this annual event. The city’s historic downtown provides an ideal setting as participants navigate through familiar streets and landmarks on race day. Whether you're running alongside the riverfront or passing by the iconic Canadore College building, there's a palpable sense of community spirit in the air.
This is the fifth year that Community Strong Race Weekend has brought together runners from across Ontario to support important causes in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma District. Each race attracts hundreds of participants who come not just for the challenge but also for the camaraderie and shared purpose. With a marathon, half-marathon, 10-kilometer run, colour run (5K), kids fun run, and even a challenging BP 61KM Challenge event on offer, there's something for everyone.
The course for the 10-kilometer race winds through downtown Sault Ste. Marie, offering scenic views of the city’s architecture and natural surroundings. Starting at the picturesque Canadore College Campus Track & Field and finishing back in the heart of town near Pim Street, runners will enjoy a flat to slightly rolling terrain that showcases both urban landscapes and park areas along the route.
Registration packets can be picked up on Friday evening from 5PM-7PM at The Tap Room located at 50 Pim St., Sault Ste. Marie. On race day morning, participants gather at the starting line in anticipation of their respective events—whether it’s a brisk start for the marathon and half-marathon races or a more leisurely beginning for the colour run.
Runners should expect mild temperatures during early June with an average high around 21°C, though cooler mornings near 13°C are possible. The humidity typically hovers at about 76%, creating comfortable conditions overall despite some potential morning dew on grassy areas and park trails. A light breeze averaging approximately 10 kilometers per hour will add a gentle lift to the atmosphere.
