Cossatot River Trail Run

Nestled along the banks of Arkansas's Cossatot River at Cossatot River State Park, the Cossatot River Trail Run offers an immersive trail running experience for endurance enthusiasts. Since its revival by Texas Outlaw Running Company in 2025, this race has become a beloved event among runners seeking challenging terrain and scenic beauty.
Competitors can choose between two distances: a hilly 12.5-mile Half Marathon or the more demanding 25-mile Marathon, both featuring rocky, rooty, grassy, and dirt single-track trails that wind through the Ouchita Mountains. The course is marked with aid stations along the way to provide hydration and sustenance for runners pushing themselves over rugged terrain.
Participants will encounter a total elevation gain of approximately 2000 feet in the Half Marathon distance and double that at 4000 feet in the full marathon, making it an ideal test for those looking to improve their endurance on challenging trails. The event takes place in Wickes, Arkansas, with temperatures typically ranging from cool to mild during September.
Race day begins early as runners gather at the Visitor Center by 6 AM for packet pickup and shuttle transportation to the start line near Bushy Creek Recreation Area. Both races offer a fully marked course supported by friendly volunteers who encourage participants every step of the way.
Upon crossing the finish line, runners receive distinctive medals and custom soft tees if ordered in advance. The event also awards first place prizes for all distances as well as a coveted "Dead Freakin' Last" award for those completing the marathon distance.
