The event takes place at Cossatot River State Park, a pristine location that features winding single-track trails characterized by rocky terrain, dense roots, grassy patches, and sections of dirt. The course is known for its hilly elevation changes; the half marathon climbs 2000 feet while the full marathon scales an impressive 4000 feet.
Runners will start early on a Saturday morning with packet pickup available from 6 AM at the Visitor Center. For participants in both distances, it's crucial to arrive prepared as there are no cups provided—bring your own hydration system for this eco-friendly event. The half marathon runners will board shuttles leaving from the Visitor Center at 7:40 AM and arriving at Bushy Creek Recreation Area by 7:50 AM.
The race day is filled with scenic vistas, friendly volunteers, and fully marked trails that guide you through the river corridor. Aid stations are strategically placed along both courses to provide hydration and snacks throughout your run. At the finish line in Wickes, AR, participants can expect a warm welcome at the Visitor Center where they will receive their Cossatot River Trail Run tee (order by September 5th for guaranteed sizes) and a commemorative medal.
Awards are given out to top male and female runners across all distances as well as an entertaining "Dead Freakin' Last" award for those who complete the marathon distance.
