The Cousins Memorial Run returns to Morden, Manitoba on Saturday, September 26th. This event honors the memory of Jireh, Sophie, and Acacia Goertzen while promoting perseverance, character, and hope in the community. Race morning will find runners assembling at Morden's picturesque Centennial Park. The park is surrounded by mature trees lining the course, creating a serene setting for participants. As the sun rises on race day, temperatures are expected to hover around 15°C with moderate UV index of 3.5 making it a comfortable start. The tradition of this event began in 2016 and has grown stronger each year, attracting over 400 runners who participate not just for the 10K, 20K, or 5K distances but also to support Roseau River Bible Camp's Campership Fund. The Goertzen family’s dedication is evident in their ongoing efforts to ensure every child can experience camp regardless of financial circumstances. The course winds through Centennial Park with its firm and slightly soft terrain underfoot. Runners will face a 10K, 20K or 5K challenge, each offering unique features along the way. The route includes gentle slopes but no significant elevation changes, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all participants. Aid stations are strategically placed to provide hydration support. Weather conditions on race day should be mild with temperatures ranging from a low of about 13°C in the early morning and climbing up to around 18°C as the sun rises fully. Expect some UV exposure but nothing extreme, making it ideal running weather despite occasional light cloud cover that might bring a slight chill during the start.
