Crimson Canyons Ultra

About the Event

Immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Central Utah’s Panoramaland as you lace up your shoes for the Crimson Canyon Ultra and Trail Runs on Saturday, September 19, 2026. This event offers three distinct distances: a challenging 10km loop through scenic trails, an exhilarating half marathon that showcases panoramic vistas, and the epic Spinal Tap Trail adventure spanning 60 kilometers.
The 10-kilometer route takes runners on a journey up the Big Red and Kiln-It Trails before descending via Cairn-Age and Tank Run Trails. This short yet intense course provides an introduction to the area’s stunning red rock landscapes and challenging terrain.
For those seeking more distance, the half marathon offers a new twist in 2025, incorporating sections of the Big Red, Kiln-It, and Faulty trails before ascending to panoramic views along the Cottonwood Canyon Rim. Runners will experience sweeping vistas across Little Valley and traverse the One-in-a-Pinion trail, culminating in an exhilarating descent on Lower Spinal Tap Trail.
The true crown jewel is the 60-kilometer Spinal Tap Trail adventure. This grueling yet breathtaking route includes a climb to White Pine Peak at an elevation of 10,200 feet before descending along the Pahvant Mountain Bike Trail System for nearly 18 miles. The ascent and descent offer runners unparalleled views and a unique blend of rugged terrain.
Participants will traverse canyons, dry washes, remote sections of the Paiute ATV trail system, and portions of Fishlake National Forest’s new mountain bike trails. Each distance presents its own challenges, from steep climbs to fast descents along well-maintained dirt paths.
Aid stations are strategically placed throughout each course, providing essential supplies such as Hammer gels, fizz, and Heed for runners tackling the longer distances. All 60-kilometer participants must carry a personal hydration solution and additional items like a rain jacket due to unpredictable weather conditions in this remote wilderness area.
Richfield, Utah, serves as the starting point for all races. Located about an hour and forty-five minutes south of Provo or one hour north of Cedar City, Richfield offers numerous accommodation options including hotels and KOA campgrounds. The Ramada Hotel in Richfield is conveniently close to the race start line and provides discounted rates for participants.
Race packets can be picked up at Lion's Park from 4-7 PM on Friday evening before the event or morning-of if you arrive early enough, though it’s recommended to avoid last-minute pickups due to potential crowds. All races feature timed starts with chip timing provided by Runnercard.com and strict cutoff times for safety.
Join us in Richfield this September as we explore some of Utah's most stunning terrain through running. Experience the thrill of adventure on trails that wind through crimson canyons, offering breathtaking views at every turn.
The Crimson Canyon Ultra and Trail Runs promise an unforgettable journey into nature’s raw beauty, perfect for trail runners seeking a challenge in one of America’s most picturesque settings.
