Dartmoor In A Day 2026

Dartmoor In A Day invites runners and walkers of all abilities to explore the rugged beauty of Dartmoor’s wild moors, valleys, and rivers. Participants can choose between two distances: a 50km ultra challenge or a more manageable yet still rewarding 30km option.
The journey begins in Okehampton, where you’ll embark on an adventure that takes you through picturesque villages like Postbridge before concluding at Ivybridge Community College. Along the way, expect to encounter stunning natural landmarks such as Hangingstone Hill and Bellever Tor, with breathtaking views of the East Dart valley and out towards the sea.
The route is predominantly off-road across open moorland terrain, offering a true wilderness experience. While the 30km challenge starts at Postbridge and follows part of the longer course, both distances provide ample opportunities to immerse yourself in Dartmoor’s unique landscape.
To enhance your navigation through this vast area, maps for use with Outdoor Active or traditional BMC Dartmoor maps are recommended. A GPX file will also be provided for those preferring GPS guidance. Comprehensive information on essential and suggested equipment is included in the participant handbook.
Dartmoor In A Day emphasizes a supportive environment rather than strict competition, offering generous cut-off times at checkpoints to accommodate varying paces. Should you find yourself unable to complete the full distance, transport will be available to take you back to Ivybridge Community College after your event concludes.
Experienced Mountain Leaders accompany participants throughout the route, providing invaluable assistance with navigation and ensuring safety through first aid provisions in remote areas. They act as mobile marshals, offering guidance on routes between checkpoints but without imposing any obligations for those wishing to navigate independently.
Refreshments are available at two key points: Postbridge and Combestone Tor, where you can recharge before continuing your journey or deciding whether to take advantage of the coach shuttle service back to Ivybridge Community College. This optional extra departs from the college early in the morning, around 6am for the ultra distance and 9am for the shorter option.
Spaces are limited and must be reserved ahead of time through our booking system. Safety is a priority at Dartmoor In A Day, which welcomes under-18 participants accompanied by an adult guardian or legal representative.
Participants also have the opportunity to purchase XCover insurance, allowing them peace of mind in case unforeseen circumstances prevent their participation. This event promises not just physical challenge but a profound connection with one of Britain’s most captivating natural landscapes.
