The Cyclocross Clinic is back, ready to welcome both newcomers and seasoned racers! Whether you're eager to try your hand at CX for the first time or looking to refine your skills before the upcoming season, this clinic offers something for everyone. For those new to cyclocross, we have a specially designed program just for you. The Beginners Group is perfect if any of these descriptions sound familiar: - You've always been curious about giving cyclocross a try but didn't know where to start. - You’ve raced a few times (five or less) and are looking to improve your performance. In this group, we cover everything from equipment basics to race day preparation. We’ll delve into fundamental skills like starting procedures, dismounting and remounting techniques, cornering, handling barriers, and more. Our experienced coaches will ensure you’re well-prepared for the challenges ahead. The registration fee is kept intentionally low to encourage new participants; however, a one-day USA Cycling license ($15) may be required if you don’t already have it. For those with prior experience looking for a refresher or feedback on your current techniques, we offer the Experienced Group. This clinic focuses on honing skills and strategies specific to cyclocross racing. You’ll benefit from small group sessions led by professional coaches who will provide personalized guidance based on your needs. Register if you feel confident in your basics but need that extra edge. Still unsure which group suits you best? Reach out using the “Contact Us” link below, and we'll help you make the right choice! FAQs: - First-time CX Racer? This clinic is ideal for beginners! The Beginners Group covers all essential aspects of racing, including fundamental skills that will serve as a foundation throughout your CX journey. We also provide ongoing resources to support continuous improvement. - Junior Cyclists: Unfortunately, this clinic does not host juniors due to age requirements. However, Rock Creek Velo (RCV) and Baltimore Youth Cycling (BYC) offer excellent programs for junior racers. Visit their websites or contact them directly for more information! - What Bike Should I Bring? While a cyclocross bike is ideal, gravel bikes, mountain bikes, and even hybrid bikes can work well too. Clipless pedals are great but not mandatory; flat pedals are also suitable. If unsure about your current setup, feel free to reach out for advice. - Why Is the Beginner Clinic Cheaper? The goal of this clinic is to introduce more people to cyclocross. Therefore, we subsidize the beginner fee to encourage participation from new racers. Don't hesitate if you're a seasoned racer; just contact us and we'll sort things out! - Need Help Deciding? Use the “Contact Us” link below for personalized advice! Generally, beginners should opt for our Beginners Group. - What’s Included in My Registration Fee? Your fee covers insurance and permit fees from USA Cycling (USAC), lunch, snacks, professional mechanical support, and helps cover coach travel expenses. Any leftover funds will be used to promote local cyclocross growth—because it's all about the love for this sport. - Do I Need a USAC License? Yes! All participants must have a current USA Cycling (USAC) license or purchase one during registration. If you’ve had a license before and it’s expired, now is a great time to renew! - What Will We Cover in the Clinic? Expect a mix of short lessons followed by on-bike practice sessions. Topics include race starts, dismounts and remounts, cornering techniques, handling barriers, bike shoulder exercises, and hand-ups. More advanced skills like bunny hopping may be covered if time allows. - Who’s Organizing the Clinic? This clinic is organized by Crosshairs Cycling Club, Bluemont Connection Cyclocross, along with a team of experienced cyclocross coaches from around the Mid-Atlantic region. Key coaches include Rachel Rubino (Haute Factory Racing), Cole Oberman (Haute Factory Racing), Kelly Roberson (Haute Factory Racing), Mike Birner (Sportif Coaching Group), Taylor Jones (Crosshairs Cycling), and Craig Etheridge (C3 Wagner Roofing).
