Derwent Reservoir Run Series 2027: A Scenic Challenge Awaited
The Derwent Reservoir Run Series returns for its ninth year, offering runners three distinct routes through one of North East England's most picturesque landscapes. The event has been rescheduled to May to accommodate the growing number of participants and provide ample parking space.
Participants can choose from a 5km course, a 5-mile route, or an exhilarating 10-mile loop around Derwent Reservoir. Each option offers unique terrain and stunning views that highlight the reservoir's natural beauty. The 10-mile event is particularly special as it follows closed roads and firm trails for its entire length, providing runners with a challenging yet rewarding experience.
The race starts at Derwent Reservoir in Edmundbyers, Consett (DH8 9TT), where participants can enjoy breathtaking vistas of the reservoir's tranquil waters surrounded by lush greenery. The event's location near the border of County Durham and Northumberland ensures that runners will encounter diverse landscapes throughout their journey.
For those interested in bringing a canine companion, the 5km and 5-mile routes are dog-friendly with one controlled pet per runner. However, due to extended road sections on the longer route, canicross enthusiasts should opt for either of the shorter options.
The event kicks off early morning, with start times set at 9:30am for the 10-mile race and 9:45am for both the 5km and 5-mile runs. It's important to note that these timings are subject to slight adjustments based on final arrangements.
To ensure safety during road closures, a strict 2.5-hour cut-off is enforced for the longer distance runners, adding an element of challenge to their journey around Derwent Reservoir.
All participants will be equipped with live chip-timing provided by Timing Up North, ensuring accurate and timely results throughout the event. At the finish line, all runners can expect a medal commemorating their achievement, along with refreshments and exclusive merchandise from Wild Deer.
