DERWENT RESERVOIR RUNS

Nestled in the picturesque North East of England, Derwent Reservoir is set to host its ninth annual running events on May 2027. This year's races offer runners three options: a scenic 5km run, a challenging 5-mile course, and an exhilarating 10-mile route that takes participants around the entire reservoir.
Deriving its name from the nearby village of Edmundbyers in Consett (DH8 9TT), Derwent Reservoir is renowned for its stunning natural beauty. The event's routes wind through firm trails and closed roads, providing runners with an unforgettable experience amidst breathtaking views. Participants will have the opportunity to explore this serene yet rugged landscape, which straddles the border between County Durham and Northumberland.
The 10-mile route offers a full lap of Derwent Reservoir on specially-closed roads, ensuring that participants can enjoy uninterrupted running along its picturesque shoreline. This challenging course is ideal for seasoned runners looking for an extra push. In contrast, both the 5km and 5-mile routes stick to firm trails within the reservoir area, allowing runners to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying a more moderate distance.
Cani-cross enthusiasts are welcome on the shorter courses but should note that dogs may not accompany participants during the longer 10-mile run due to extended road sections. The race starts at different times: 9:30am for the 10-mile event, followed by the 5-mile and 5km races starting simultaneously at 9:45am.
To ensure safety and fairness, there is a strict 2.5-hour cut-off time for the 10-mile race due to road closures. All runners will be equipped with live chip-timing provided by Timing Up North, ensuring accurate results throughout the event.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants are greeted with an array of rewards: a commemorative medal and merchandise from Wild Deer, as well as snacks and refreshments to help them recover after their efforts. For those interested in commemorating this special day, there is also an option to purchase an official race T-shirt for £14 at the time of registration.
Parking on site will be available but comes with a charge of £3 per vehicle due to limited space. Organizers encourage carpooling among participants to minimize environmental impact and reduce parking costs.
