Devil Dog Ultras

Devil Dog Ultras returns to Triangle, Virginia on December 5th, offering a challenging course for seasoned ultrarunners with distances ranging from the grueling 100-mile event down to the more manageable but still demanding 50K. The race unfolds in Prince William Forest Park and is organized by an enthusiastic group of trail runners known for their quirky spirit and extensive experience.
On race morning, participants can expect a firm yet slightly soft trail surface underfoot as they navigate through single-track trails that wind around rolling hills with occasional steep sections marked only by roots and rocks. The weather forecast suggests temperatures will hover between 32°F to 41°F (0°C to 5°C) at the start of the race, presenting runners with a cool but not frigid environment for their endeavors.
Since its inception in previous years, Devil Dog Ultras has become an iconic event within the ultrarunning community. The race attracts hundreds of participants annually who come together to push their limits on scenic trails that wind through Prince William Forest Park. Runners are drawn by more than just the challenging terrain; they also support a cause close to many hearts—the United States Marine Corps Foundation, which benefits from donations and awareness generated during this event.
The course for Devil Dog Ultras primarily consists of single-track trail loops with well-marked aid stations at Camp Remi (start/finish), Camp Gunny, and Camp Toofy. Each loop covers 19.5 miles except the first one which measures 23 miles. Runners will find three fully stocked aid stations on each lap offering hot food options such as chili, oatmeal, pasta dishes, sandwiches, potatoes, burritos, fruits, vegetables, and an array of beverages including coffee and tea in addition to water and sports drinks at unmanned resupply points (RP Alpha, Bravo, Charlie). Crew access is permitted only at Camp Remi and Camp Toofy; however, the race can be completed without crew support thanks to enthusiastic volunteer assistance.
