Dirty Dog Trail Run

The 17th Annual Dirty Dog Trail Run invites runners and their furry companions to explore the scenic trails of Midland City Forest on August 15, 2026. This beloved community event offers both competitive racers and leisurely walkers a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of Michigan while supporting vital animal welfare programs.
Participants can choose from three options: a challenging 10K run, a more relaxed 5K run/walk, or a gentle one-mile walk through the woods. The race starts at 9:00 am for those without dogs and continues with dog-friendly participants starting between 9:05 to 9:15 am. Walkers of all kinds begin their journey from 9:10 am onwards.
The course winds through a diverse landscape within Midland City Forest, covering over 520 acres filled with woods, creeks, marshes, and bridges. The terrain features both flat stretches and rolling hills, providing an engaging challenge for runners while ensuring that walkers can enjoy the scenic route at their own pace.
Registration is open until August 1st to secure your spot without late fees; same-day registration will also be available from 8:00 am to 8:45 am on race day. Pre-registered participants have the option of purchasing a commemorative shirt for $10, though these are not guaranteed after this date.
Packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, August 14th, between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm at Midland City Forest's west end parking lot. On race day, packets will be available from 8:00 am to 8:45 am.
Race timing by Miller Race Management ensures accurate results for all participants, with a kiosk set up near the finish line providing instant times and placements. Awards are given out after the event concludes, celebrating both human and canine achievements alike.
Refreshments will be provided at a mid-course water station as well as post-race snacks and beverages to help everyone recover from their efforts under the Midland City Forest canopy.
The race is an initiative by Shelterhouse and SOS Animal Rescue to raise funds for victims of domestic violence who need safe havens for their pets, as well as supporting foster care and spay/neuter programs for animals in need. Participants are encouraged but not required to bring their dogs; all canine companions must be kept on leashes at all times.
For those looking to connect with the community beyond just running, a silent auction will feature items donated by local businesses such as Ace Hardware, Espresso Milano, and many more.
In case of adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances that may lead to cancellation, participants can look forward to an alternative virtual race format rather than refunds.
