On Saturday, June 12, 2027, the Gardiner County Park will come alive with an inspiring and heartwarming atmosphere as runners of all ages gather for the Dog Tag Run. This unique event combines physical activity with a meaningful cause: supporting veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation. The race kicks off at 8:30 AM with a Kids Fun Run, offering young participants a chance to start the day on an energetic note and experience the joy of running alongside their furry companions. At 9:00 AM, the event transitions into its main attraction as runners prepare for the 2.2-mile race. The course is designed to cater to various abilities with staggered starts that ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable run. Runners will set off first at 9:00 AM, followed by participants who have brought their canine companions along on a six-foot leash. This segment allows for an additional layer of camaraderie as dogs join in the festivities, creating a joyful scene filled with tail-wagging enthusiasm and excited barks. Last to start are those choosing to walk or stroll alongside their pets at 9:05 AM. The event takes place rain or shine within Gardiner County Park's picturesque grounds along Manor Lane & Montauk Highway in Bay Shore, New York. The park offers a serene backdrop of lush greenery and scenic paths that make for an ideal setting for this community-driven initiative. Operation VEST, the organizing charity behind the Dog Tag Run, aims to address the unique challenges faced by veterans struggling with mental health issues and suicide prevention. By supporting organizations like Paws of War through event proceeds raised from the dog division, participants contribute directly towards providing therapy dogs and emotional support for those in need. All registrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt upon registration as well as exclusive bibs that track their performance during the race. For canine companions participating alongside humans, there are special prizes too – all “pawticipants” who complete the Dog Tag Dog Walk will be awarded an Operation VEST bandana and dog tag. This event is more than just a run; it’s a powerful testament to unity and support for our nation's heroes. Join us on June 12, 2027, as we come together in Gardiner County Park to honor the service and sacrifices of veterans while raising awareness about critical issues affecting them today.
