The Donkey Brae Races 2026 returns as part of Scotland's vibrant Aberdour Festival, one of summer’s must-visit events. This year, runners will have the choice between two challenging courses: a scenic 7-mile race and a shorter but equally thrilling 2-mile run for juniors aged nine and up.
The main attraction is the 7-mile course, which winds through undulating coastal paths connecting Aberdour and Dalgety Bay. The route features varied terrain with stretches of sandy beaches, rocky cliffs, and wooded trails that offer stunning views along Scotland’s picturesque coastlines. Runners will tackle a short but steep climb up Donkey Brae before crossing the finish line amidst the festive atmosphere at Silver Sands Park.
The 2-mile race is designed for younger participants, offering an opportunity to experience the excitement of competitive racing in a safe and engaging environment within Aberdour village. The course includes portions through local woods, providing runners with a mix of challenging terrain while keeping them close to home.
Both events are timed using chipped bibs, ensuring accurate results that will be published online on race day. All participants receive medals upon completion, celebrating their achievement under the buzzing energy of the festival’s village market.
The event also features a family-friendly 1-kilometer fun run open to all ages and abilities. This shorter route circles Silver Sands Playing Fields and is perfect for families looking to enjoy physical activity together in an encouraging environment.
In addition to the races, visitors can look forward to a full day of entertainment at the famous village market. The market offers everything from carnival attractions and food trucks to local craft vendors, providing ample opportunities for runners and spectators alike to relax and celebrate after their efforts on the course.
Registration takes place between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM on race day at Silver Sands Park. Participants should arrive early as parking is limited around the venue; public transport options are highly recommended due to restricted parking in the area, particularly at Aberdour train station which offers free but busy parking.
The Donkey Brae Races not only celebrates athletic achievement and community spirit but also supports local charities such as Radio West Fife and the Aberdour Festival. This event promises an unforgettable day filled with scenic beauty, competitive racing, and a vibrant celebration of Scottish summer traditions.
Facilities at Silver Sands Park include toilets, bag drop areas, hydration stations along both race routes, and first aid coverage on site. Food and drink are available for purchase from the village market vendors.
Entrance fees vary: £18 for adults in the 7-mile event and £7 for juniors participating in the 2-mile race. No refunds or deferrals will be provided if a participant cannot attend; however, entry transfers can be arranged through Entry Central before the July 24th deadline.
