The Dovedale Dash, an enduring fixture since 1953, invites runners of all abilities to traverse the stunning landscapes around Thorpe and Dovedale in the Derbyshire Peak District. This year marks the race's 66th edition, a milestone celebrated by thousands who gather annually for this beloved cross-country event. The main race spans 4 3/4 miles through picturesque valleys crisscrossed with fields, paths, and open ground along the river Dove and Manifold. Participants are treated to breathtaking views as they navigate winding trails that culminate in an exhilarating crossing of the river Dove via its historic Stepping Stones—a moment etched into every runner's memory. The race begins at 11 am from Thorpe pastures near the quaint village of Thorpe, where a sea of runners sets off towards narrow Lyn Dale. Free parking is available on-site, but early arrival is recommended as spaces can fill up quickly due to unpredictable weather conditions that may force last-minute cancellations or adjustments. Registration opens at 9 am for participants aged 12 and over who wish to compete in the main race. For younger competitors, there's also a Mini Dash designed specifically for children under 12 years old on the day of the event. This shorter course covers approximately 1 1/4 miles around Thorpe Cloud, offering U9s (8 and under) and U12s their own category. The Mini Dash starts at the far end of Thorpe Pastures, winding through a scenic route that includes crossing by the river Dove without entering it. Parents or guardians are welcome to accompany young runners throughout this race, which concludes with cheers from both competitors and spectators alike.
