Experience the breathtaking beauty of Maine's Down East region during the Down East Sunrise Gravel Ride, set for Sunday, August 9, 2026. This non-timed gravel cycling event invites you to explore Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, a sanctuary that showcases the pristine landscapes and rich wildlife of this northeastern corner. The ride is organized in collaboration with the Down East Sunrise Trail Coalition and Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, ensuring an immersive experience rooted in community and conservation. Participants can choose from three distances: 24 miles for advanced riders, 14 miles for intermediates, or a more leisurely 5-mile route designed for beginners. The event kicks off with check-in at the YCC Building starting at 8:00 am on Sunday morning. From there, rides commence as follows: - The Advanced Gravel Ride starts at 9:00 am - Intermediate Riders set out at 9:15 am - Beginners begin their journey at 9:30 am Post-cycling, enjoy a complimentary picnic lunch hosted by Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. The event also offers early bird and regular entry fees for families and solo riders. Families (up to five members) can register early at $40 or before August 1, pay the standard rate of $50, or purchase a late pass for $60. Solo riders have options as well: an early bird registration fee of $20 until July 1; regular entry costing $25 up to August 1; and a final option at $30 from August 1 through race day.
