About the Event

Experience the thrill of the Allegheny Gnar Downhill Weekend, set against the backdrop of Oil City's scenic Clark’s Summit Trails. This July 3-5, this championship race offers an unforgettable adventure for all skill levels.
On Friday, July 3rd, participants can enjoy a special extra shuttle ride day and immerse themselves in the vibrant Jolly July 3rd Festival downtown. Fireworks viewing from a lookout point will add to the evening's festivities.
Saturday, July 4th, brings more opportunities with shuttled rides, including an exciting Gnar Cross 4X Fun Race and MTB clinics designed for beginners and experts alike. The day culminates in a free shuttle ride down after the race ends at 4:20 PM.
Sunday, July 5th, marks the pinnacle of the event—the USA Cycling-sanctioned Downhill Championship. This race is open to all skill levels, ensuring a competitive yet inclusive atmosphere for both professionals and amateurs. Spectators are encouraged to arrive around 10 AM on Sunday to secure prime viewing spots; practice sessions start at noon.
The trail offers diverse challenges with two distinct courses catering to different categories: Cat 3 and beginner riders will race on their own course, while Pro and Category 1/2 competitors tackle a more demanding downhill path. The event promises an immersive experience for all ages, free of charge, rain or shine.
Participants must check in at the registration booth before riding or competing; overnight parking is permitted only for registered racers. USAC licenses are required but can be acquired on-site if needed. Kathi Krause, a three-time Masters World Downhill Champion and founder of Dirt Rock n Root Training (DRRT), will lead clinics to help riders build confidence and skills.
The event schedule includes classes like Men’s Pro, Women's Pro/ Open, Cat 1/2 for various age groups, and more. Awards await the top performers in each class, with substantial cash prizes up for grabs. The race is run rain or shine, ensuring an exciting experience every time.
