Downtown Rocks and Runs

Dive back into the heart of downtown Mount Airy for the highly anticipated return of Downtown Rocks and Runs, set to take place on August 15th, 2026. This beloved race has made its comeback after a brief hiatus as the Ararat River Run last year, thanks to overwhelming community support from runners, sponsors, and local supporters eager to embrace the charm and energy that only downtown Mount Airy can offer.
The Downtown Rocks and Runs event features both 5K and 10K distances, each offering unique challenges through historic streets lined with enthusiastic spectators. The race course is meticulously designed to showcase the vibrant neighborhoods of Mount Airy while providing runners with a mix of scenic beauty and challenging terrain, including several hills that test endurance.
For those looking beyond personal achievements, Downtown Rocks and Runs serves as more than just an athletic event; it marks the kickoff for the United Fund of Surry's annual fundraising campaign. Every participant helps support local programs and organizations that strengthen communities throughout the year with their registration fees and participation.
Registration options are varied to accommodate all types of runners, from individual participants aiming for personal bests to corporate teams looking to demonstrate commitment through health initiatives. Early bird discounts are available until July 12th: $35 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K before this date. Standard registration rates apply between July 13th and August 15th, at $40 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K.
Additional highlights include a free Fun Run for kids aged 12 and under, complete with participation ribbons, while older children can join their parents in either of the main race distances. Early registrants by July 31st are guaranteed event t-shirts and exclusive goodie bags.
Post-race recovery will be facilitated through an array of breakfast foods, fresh fruit, and water stations at the finish line to ensure all participants leave feeling refreshed after a challenging yet rewarding run or walk.
Awards for both individual runners and corporate teams enhance the competitive spirit. Overall top male and female winners in each race receive $250 cash prizes, while age division awards are also given out based on gun time. Corporate sponsors can vie for recognition through the Corporate Participation Challenge, with a trophy awarded to the company that mobilizes the most participants across both races.

Packet pickup will take place on Friday, August 14th from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM at the Mount Airy Municipal Building (City Hall) located at 300 S. Main Street, Mount Airy. Race day registration and packet pick-up are available until race start times.
