On Saturday, May 8th, 2027, runners are invited to explore the enchanting trails of Sherwood Forest for the Dukeries 30 & 40 Mile races. This fully marked and marshalled course offers a generous cut-off time of 10.5 hours, ensuring that participants from various abilities can enjoy this scenic run. The race begins in the heart of Sherwood Forest, winding through its lush trails and footpaths. The route takes runners past charming lodges, historic Creswell Crags, and along the serene Welbeck Estate. As you continue on your journey, the trail crosses Clumber Park and meanders through peaceful farmland before looping back to pass by the Thoresby Estate. For those tackling the 40-mile loop, a highlight awaits as runners will encounter The Major Oak. This circular route offers an ideal setting for both newcomers to long-distance trail running and seasoned athletes looking to set personal bests in an ultra distance race. Participants can expect stunning views of sandstone villages and historical sites that are often overlooked by other races. Refreshments are provided at regular intervals along the course, ensuring runners remain energized throughout their journey. Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will receive a medal as a testament to their achievement. Registration opens early on race day at 6am and closes promptly at 7:15am for both the 30-mile and 40-mile routes. A brief race briefing follows registration from 7:15-7:30am, after which runners will start their adventure at exactly 7:30am. Participants are welcome to bring canine companions but should note that there is a limit of 20 canicross runners for this event. Walkers with no intention of completing the race within the cut-off time are not permitted; however, walk/run strategies (jeffing) are perfectly fine and encouraged as part of the run. Race day starts at Forest Lane in Walesby, Newark, Nottinghamshire, where participants will register, start their journey, and return after their adventure. For more detailed information leading up to race day, all entrants will receive an email with final instructions about a week before the event date. Any inquiries regarding entries should be directed to Race Director Ronnie Staton via [email protected] This event promises not only a challenging course but also a memorable experience in one of England's most picturesque settings. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Sherwood Forest and its rich history! For those interested, T-shirts can be purchased alongside race entry or opt for the tree-planting initiative as an alternative donation option.

About Newark
Learn more about the host city, Newark.
Newark is New Jersey's largest city and second largest in Metro New York. Although one of the great historic cities of the Northeast and the most culture-rich city in the state, Newark is often overlooked in favor of Goliath-like Manhattan and towns along the Hudson River, such as Jersey City and Hoboken. While no longer the industrial powerhouse it once was, Newark remains one of America's major shipping, rail, and air hubs. Public transportation is abundant, making it easy to get to, from, and around the city.
