EDP Porto Marathon

The EDP Porto Marathon, an annual long-distance running spectacle that has captivated runners since its inception in 2004, invites participants to explore one of Portugal's most vibrant regions. Held typically in November, the marathon offers a scenic journey through three neighboring cities: Porto, Matosinhos, and Vila Nova de Gaia.
The course weaves seamlessly between seaside promenades and riverside paths, showcasing both flat stretches and fast sections that cater to runners of all abilities. As participants traverse this dynamic landscape, they are treated to breathtaking views of the Douro River, which winds through Porto's historic center – a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996.
The route takes runners past iconic landmarks such as the Ribeira district with its narrow streets and colorful houses, the majestic Dom Luís I Bridge that connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto’s riverside area, and the renowned wine cellars of Porto. These storied cellars are not just tourist attractions but living testaments to the city's rich history in producing world-renowned fortified wines.
In recent years, over 10,000 athletes from more than 72 countries have joined this international gathering, making it a truly global event that celebrates both athletic achievement and cultural heritage. Porto itself is renowned for its charm and allure; it has been recognized as the Best European Destination in 2012, 2014, and 2017.
