Elden Ridge Run

About the Event

Elden Ridge Run 2026: A Runner’s Paradise in the Arizona Mountains
Registration for Elden Ridge Run 2026 opens on April 17, 2026, at 7:00 AM Mountain Standard Time. This marks our third year of hosting this exhilarating race through the scenic trails around Flagstaff.
The course starts from Sandy Seep trailhead and winds its way into a serene landscape dotted with ponderosa pines. As you begin your journey on Christmas Tree Trail after turning left at the power line access road, volunteers will guide you to ensure no one misses their turn. The initial section offers gentle rolling terrain that leads seamlessly into a challenging climb.
The ascent up Mt. Elden is steep and demanding; some runners may find it runnable while others might need to resort to hiking. Regardless of your approach, the summit provides breathtaking views of Flagstaff's skyline and surrounding peaks. From there, you’ll descend via Lookout Tower Road towards Sunset Trail, where stunning vistas await.
Approximately 6 miles into the race, just over a mile from Mt. Elden’s peak, runners will encounter the only aid station, offering water and electrolyte beverages to help replenish your energy stores. After refueling, it's time for another descent on New Heart trail, featuring red-orange cliffs of Little Elden as you make your way down.
The course then transitions into Old Little Elden Trail where clear signage guides runners towards the finish line via Christmas Tree Trail. The final stretch is a gradual descent to Sandy Seep parking lot, with just enough obstacles like rocks and pine branches to keep things interesting until the very end.
Parking at Sandy Seep Trailhead will be limited due to its primitive nature; carpooling or arranging for shuttle services are recommended options given space constraints. High clearance vehicles are advised as the trailhead is on a dirt road.
Race day features no pacers, and aid can only come from designated volunteers at established stations, ensuring minimal environmental impact in this fragile ecosystem. The course will be well-marked with multiple volunteers stationed to assist runners who might face confusion or technical difficulties along the way.
Weather conditions typically range between 32°F and 63°F in October, with gusty winds atop Mt. Elden making it essential for participants to dress appropriately.
Post-race recovery is catered by a free espresso bar alongside other snacks and beverages provided exclusively for racers at Sandy Seep Trailhead.
For more details on bib pick-up options, cutoff times, or any updates regarding sponsors and prizes, stay tuned as we release additional information closer to the event date.

About Flagstaff

Learn more about the host city, Flagstaff.

Scenic view of

Flagstaff is a city of over 75,000 people (2019) near the San Francisco Peaks mountain range of northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon. At an altitude of 6,990 ft (2,130 m), Flagstaff and much of the surrounding region are substantially cooler than the low desert that dominates the southern part of the state. Though still dry by east coast standards, enough rain and snow falls in the area to allow a forest of ponderosa pine trees to cover the landscape. Winters tend to be cold, and heavy snowfall is expected on an annual basis.
