About the Event

The Enschede Marathon is steeped in history as one of the first marathons to take place in both the Netherlands and Western Europe, with its inaugural race dating back to 1947. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in recent years, this event has cemented itself as a cornerstone of Dutch running culture.
Competitors can expect smooth, speedy routes that wind through picturesque landscapes and bustling urban areas alike. The marathon begins on the sprawling campus of the University of Twente, an academic haven with plenty of energy to fuel runners' initial miles. As participants make their way onto the F35 cycle highway—a route designed for cyclists but equally suitable for running—the scenery transitions into a serene blend of nature and infrastructure.
The highlight comes as runners pass through H.J. van Heekpark, a lush green space that offers both shade from trees and stunning views to admire along the course. The marathon concludes in Enschede's vibrant city center, where an enthusiastic crowd of 80,000 supporters line the streets to cheer on every finisher.
Whether you're aiming for personal bests or simply enjoying a scenic run, the Enschede Marathon offers a rich blend of historical significance and modern running excellence.
