Essex 20 - Essex County Road Running Championships
About the Event
Welcome to the Essex 20 – Essex County Road Running Championships! Held annually in March, the Essex 20 is an ideal race to prepare for marathon season. This prestigious competition takes place on a fast and flat tarmac course at Debden Airfield, a former airbase now converted into a runner’s paradise. To compete in this championship event, entrants must be affiliated with England Athletics through their local running club during the current affiliation year. Participants will need to provide proof of affiliation by submitting an England Athletic Affiliation number and the name of their affiliated club when registering for the race. Without these details, entries won’t be accepted into the County Championship. The 20-mile course at Debden Airfield features a smooth tarmac surface with no sharp corners, allowing runners to maintain high speeds throughout the five laps. The surrounding tree cover creates calm wind conditions, making it an ideal setting for achieving personal bests and competitive performances. To secure your spot in this highly anticipated race, you’ll need a password that can be obtained from your running club or by contacting Essex Road Race Secretary via essexathleticaasec@aol.com. For those who wish to participate but aren’t eligible for the County Championship, general entry is also available through our registration page. Join us in supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK as part of this event. Your run will not only push your limits but contribute towards life-changing research and support initiatives. Opportunities to donate and fundraise are available at checkout. We look forward to seeing you on race day for a competitive and scenic running experience! Please note that the booking page is exclusively for those entering the County Championship event, so make sure to obtain the required password from your club or the Essex Road Race Secretary.

Wimbish is a village and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. It is 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Saffron Walden, its post town. The first recorded mention of the village was in 1042, when it was referred to as Winebisc. It was subsequently referred to as Wimbeis in the Domesday Book of 1086. The village has its own non-denominational primary school and a church. The church tower was partly destroyed by lightning in 1756, and was rebuilt in brick but was later taken down again in 1883.
