The Every Step Counts 5K Run/Walk presented by Landrum returns to Pensacola, Florida on October 10th for its fourth year running, inviting runners and walkers alike to lace up their shoes in support of mental health awareness. This annual event takes place along the scenic streets of downtown Pensacola, weaving through historic neighborhoods and iconic landmarks that define this coastal city’s character.
As autumn gently touches the Gulf Coast, participants will find themselves immersed in a vibrant community atmosphere where every step carries meaning beyond just physical movement. The crisp air and warm sunsets set the stage for an afternoon filled with camaraderie and purpose. Local businesses line the route, contributing to the lively backdrop of Pensacola’s bustling streets during this time of year.
Every Step Counts is not merely a race but a tradition that has grown steadily since its inception in 2019. Last year saw over two hundred participants come together for a cause greater than themselves. The event honors those who have faced mental health challenges and celebrates the strides made by individuals seeking recovery or simply wishing to improve their overall well-being through physical activity. All proceeds benefit Lakeview Center, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral healthcare services.
The race course winds its way around Seville Square in downtown Pensacola, offering runners both flat terrain and picturesque views of the city’s historic architecture. The route includes several notable markers such as the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum and various parks that dot this vibrant neighborhood. Each mile is clearly marked with signs guiding participants along a carefully planned path designed to showcase not just distance but also the cultural richness of Pensacola.
Race day begins at Seville Square, where runners will start on time after a brief opening ceremony led by organizers from Landrum and Lakeview Center volunteers. The elevation profile remains relatively flat throughout the course, making it accessible for both competitive athletes and casual participants alike. Aid stations are strategically placed every mile to ensure that everyone has access to water and other necessities during their run or walk. Special features include motivational signs along the route encouraging participants to keep pushing forward towards a healthier lifestyle.
Weather conditions in October typically feature comfortable temperatures ranging from an average of 17.8°C to a high of around 25.9°C, with humidity levels averaging at about 69%. The trail surface is expected to be hard and dry, providing excellent footing for participants despite the slight chance of rain due to typical rainfall amounting to approximately 2.8mm throughout race day. Runners should anticipate an overcast sky with intermittent sunshine, making it a pleasant yet cool environment conducive to both running and walking.
