Since its inception in 2012 with just 135 runners, the Muscat Marathon has evolved into a celebrated international sports event. Initially organized by Muscat Road Runners, it underwent a transformation in 2017 when Al Mouj Muscat, Oman Sail, and Muscat Road Runners united to form the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon. This collaboration marked a new era for the race as Experience Oman stepped forward as title sponsor, infusing fresh energy into the event. The marathon takes place at the picturesque Al Mouj Muscat venue, which has become synonymous with athletic excellence in Oman. The partnership between these organizations underscores their commitment to promoting healthy living and positioning Oman as a leading destination for sports tourism. By showcasing the country's rich heritage and vibrant culture on an international stage, Experience Oman’s involvement enhances the event's appeal. The race offers runners from around the world a unique opportunity to experience Oman’s stunning landscapes and warm hospitality through its marathon, half-marathon, 10K run, relay races, and Charity Fun Run. In recent years, the marathon has grown significantly in size and scope, attracting nearly 13,000 participants across five race categories from over 102 nationalities during a two-day festival. Certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Road Races) and aligned with IAAF standards, the event ensures runners are partaking in an officially recognized competition. The Charity Fun Run has also become a highlight, drawing thousands of participants who contribute to various causes through their efforts on race day.
