The FACTS 5K is the cornerstone fundraising event of the year for Fact-Based Academy and its surrounding community. This annual run/walk not only promotes physical health but also supports cultural enrichment, social engagement, and educational advancement among students. Proceeds from this event fund a variety of initiatives that enhance the unique learning environment at FACTS: - Purchase of new Lion heads to celebrate significant occasions like Lunar New Year and Promotion Day. - Acquisition of additional Chromebooks and scientific calculators for every student's use in class. - Hosting African American storytellers who share their cultural traditions with students. - Expanding the library collection to include books that represent diverse histories and experiences, ensuring underrepresented groups are well-represented. - Upgrading the music room with new guitars, recorders, glockenspiels, and risers. Medals will be awarded to the top 5 finishers in both youth and adult categories. Prizes will also go to teams based on participation numbers, best costumes at FDR park, the youngest participant, and those showcasing school spirit through creative displays of FACTS pride. Participants can choose to run or walk the full course, which consists of two loops around a scenic route totaling 5 kilometers. Alternatively, there's an option for walkers who wish to complete just one loop (approximately 1.5 miles). For race day logistics: - Arrive at FDR park by 8:10 am; the event starts promptly at 8:30 am. - Wear your unique race bib provided on your shirt front with safety pins, and do not lose it as replacements will not be issued. - Line up according to whether you plan to run or walk. Runners should line up near the start while walkers follow behind them; strollers are welcome but must align at the back of all runners and walkers. Additional race day amenities include: - Water stations available during and after the event for hydration needs. - Fresh fruit, snacks, and post-race refreshments will be provided by FACTS staff upon completion of your run/walk journey. Following the conclusion of the 5K around 9:40 am, awards ceremonies for both age group winners and special categories such as team participation and creative costumes will take place. This event is a celebration not just of physical achievement but also cultural appreciation and community spirit. Please note that dogs are strictly prohibited due to safety concerns for all participants. Strollers are welcome on the course; however, bicycles or scooters are not permitted.
