Cyclists looking for scenic routes and challenging terrain will find plenty to enjoy at the Festival of Cycling, returning for its 11th year. Set against the backdrop of South Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, this event offers a variety of distance options designed to cater to both road cyclists and off-road enthusiasts. The festival features four distinct route choices: two new road routes covering 100 kilometers and 50 kilometers, as well as two innovative off-road courses spanning 70 kilometers and 40 kilometers. Each course winds through picturesque landscapes, offering a mix of rolling hills and tranquil countryside roads that provide both scenic beauty and physical challenge. For those opting for the road routes, expect clear guidance with yellow Cycle Route signs along the way, supplemented by ground markings in key areas to ensure riders stay on track. The off-road courses are marked using black arrows, black and yellow tape, and orange spray paint at critical junctions where navigation might be less intuitive based solely on GPS data. Entry fees for each route stand at £35 per participant, with the option to switch distances up until one week before the event by contacting info@raceharborough.co.uk. Entries close two days prior to the race date. Upon completion of your ride, enjoy a hearty meal waiting at the finish line; this year's offering will be pizza with vegan and gluten-free options available. Cyclists can also purchase hot or cold drinks from the finish area to quench their thirst after the event. E-bike riders are welcome but must adhere to British Cycling’s guidelines for electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs). This means that bikes should have pedals capable of propelling them independently, an electric motor with a continuous rated power not exceeding 250 watts, and automatic disengagement when reaching speeds over 15.5 miles per hour. The festival kicks off at Kibworth Mead Academy on Smeeton Road in Kibworth, Leicester (LE8 0LG), where riders can start anytime from 08:00 onwards. Professional first aid support will be available throughout the event to ensure rider safety and well-being. Each route includes a mid-point feed station stocked with snacks, hot drinks, cold beverages, sweet treats, and savory options designed to keep energy levels up during your ride. All participants who complete their chosen distance will receive a bespoke finisher’s medal as recognition of their accomplishment. Capture the memories of this event by checking Race Harborough's Facebook page for free digital photos available shortly after completion of the race.
