This race takes place in Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park at 800 West Stadium Blvd, where participants start their journey southward through the city and into the countryside. The event is set to begin promptly at 8 AM, with runners traversing a mix of paved rail-trail paths and soft earth trails that wind along Flat Branch Creek.
On race morning in February, Columbia’s climate brings cooler temperatures than summer months, typically ranging from around 15°C to 30°C. Flat Branch Ultra follows a mostly out-and-back course along established trails starting from Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, taking competitors through diverse landscapes including riverfront paths, historic bluffs, and dense woodland areas. The MKT Trail leads runners southwest for approximately 7.5 miles before intersecting the Katy Trail near McBaine. Aid stations are strategically placed every few miles to provide essential hydration and energy refills—most notably at Halfway Home just east of Rocheport.
