Deep within Roosevelt Forest, where nature’s whispers blend with the echoes of history, awaits an endurance challenge that transcends mere distance. The Forgotten Forest 9-Hour Ultra Trails Race invites runners to explore its winding paths and steep hills under a canopy of ancient trees. Set against the backdrop of Stratford, Connecticut, this event offers both seasoned ultrarunners and newcomers alike a unique opportunity to test their limits on meticulously marked single and double-track trails. The course features approximately 2.2 miles per loop with an elevation gain of roughly 131 feet, providing runners with rolling hills and rocky terrain that challenge even the most experienced athletes. Race day begins early at 7:00 AM when bib pickup starts at the pavilion. Participants have until 8:30 AM to prepare before the race officially commences. The event runs from 8:30 AM through 5:30 PM, allowing ample time for runners to tackle multiple loops and push their boundaries. The aid station is conveniently located near the start/finish line at the pavilion, where participants can refuel with a variety of hydration options and food provided by race organizers. While efforts are made to cater to various dietary needs, it’s recommended that individuals bring along any specific fueling items they require for optimal performance throughout the day. In addition to the competitive spirit, this event fosters camaraderie among runners through designated crew support and pacing opportunities after 7 hours into the race (3:30 PM). Pacers must sign a waiver at the pavilion before joining in to assist participants. A $25 fee applies for pacers starting earlier than 12:30 PM, ensuring all rules are strictly followed. Upon completion of their journey through Roosevelt Forest, runners can celebrate their achievements around a roaring fireplace (weather permitting) located within the pavilion area. Complimentary non-alcoholic beer from sponsor Athletic Brewing adds to the festive atmosphere as participants mingle with fellow competitors and supporters alike. Registration is capped at 50 participants, ensuring an intimate race experience where personal bests are celebrated rather than overshadowed by larger crowds. Entry fees contribute not only towards event production but also support local charities through Roosevelt Forest Ultras’ initiatives.
