Welcome to the Fort Ord Trail Run & Monterey Ultra 50 Mile Weekend Event! This two-day extravaganza is set against the stunning backdrop of California’s Monterey Bay, offering runners an unforgettable experience on trails steeped in history and natural beauty.
Event Overview:
The weekend kicks off with the Monterey Ultra 50 Mile Race and Fort Ord Trail Run 50K, both taking place on Saturday, February 6. On Sunday, February 7, participants can choose between two shorter distances—the 25K and 10K—or opt to volunteer at one of the events.
The Fort Ord National Monument is a unique setting for this event. Once home to the U.S. Army’s 7th Infantry Division (Light), it was later transformed into California State University Monterey Bay, Fort Ord Dunes State Park, and numerous conservation areas. The area's rich history and diverse landscapes make it an ideal location for trail runners seeking both scenic beauty and a challenge.

- Saturday Events:
- 50K Race Start Time: 7:30 AM
- Early Check-In & Bib Pickup on Friday, February 5 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at The Treadmill in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

- Sunday Events:
- 10K Race Start Time: 8:30 AM
- 25K Race Start Time: 8:00 AM
Course & Aid Stations:
The courses are meticulously designed to showcase the best of Fort Ord's trails, featuring a mix of sandy paths and fireroads. Detailed maps and elevation profiles provide runners with all necessary information for race day.
Aid stations along the route offer an array of essential supplies including energy gels, trail mixes, fruits, sandwiches, sports drinks, and more from brands like Gu Energy and Skratch Labs to keep you fueled throughout your run.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Without volunteers, these events wouldn’t be possible. Help out at check-in, aid stations, or course marshaling for a unique way to experience the race while meeting fellow trail enthusiasts. Volunteers receive free T-shirts, food, and credits toward future Inside Trail Racing events based on their level of involvement.
Race Gear & Awards:
Participants can purchase custom District Perfect-Tri tri-blend performance crew shirts designed specifically for this event. To ensure your size is available, register by January 21, 2027 to secure a guaranteed shirt.
Awards include custom trophies and medals for the top three overall male and female winners in each race distance. Age-group awards are also given out at various intervals up to age 70+. Additionally, all finishers receive unique commemorative items such as pint glasses or special edition medals.
Logistics:
Parking is available within Laguna Seca Recreation Area adjacent to the start/finish area for a fee of $5 per vehicle. Carpooling is encouraged and timing will be provided by ultralive.net with an additional $3 charge covering split tracking services.
