Freedom Backyard Ultra Marathon (FBUM 2027)

The event follows the strict rules of the Backyard Ultra format: each lap is precisely four miles long with an elevation gain of 880 feet. Competitors must complete their laps within one hour to remain eligible for further rounds. The race begins promptly at 8:00 a.m., and every subsequent start occurs exactly one hour after the previous bell rings, ensuring that participants are constantly pushed to maintain a steady pace.
The course itself is a loop through undulating Midwest terrain, featuring rolling hills, creek crossings, fields, and stretches of small gravel roads. About half of it winds through dense woods with technical trails covered in rocks and roots, providing both shade during the day and challenges for runners. The remaining portion offers scenic vistas across open fields, showcasing Missouri's diverse landscape.
All aid stations are conveniently located at a central barn next to the farmhouse, where competitors can restock on food, drinks, and supplements throughout the race. A small water point is also available along the route for quick hydration stops. Participants must adhere strictly to the rules: no personal aids or non-competitors allowed during active laps.
The Missouri Freedom Camp provides a serene backdrop with onsite camping facilities, perfect for those who wish to experience the full immersion of this event. For comfort and convenience, hotels are located just 15 minutes away in Sullivan, Mo.
Registration opens early with perks like race shirts available exclusively until May 5th. A pre-race dinner is scheduled at Missouri Freedom Camp on June 4th from 6:00 p.m., where racers can enjoy a complimentary meal and receive essential briefings about the course and rules.
