Freedom Run Presented by UnityPoint Health returns to East Moline, Illinois on August 13th, 2026. This event is a celebration of our local military heroes and their families. The race begins at 8:00 AM in the heart of East Moline's Memorial Park, where veterans often gather for ceremonies and commemorations. The atmosphere on race morning will be filled with patriotism and camaraderie as participants and spectators alike gather to honor those who have served our country. The park is adorned with historic Civil War cannons, American flags fluttering from trees, and military vehicles that line the course. Freedom Run has been running for several years now, becoming an integral part of East Moline's community calendar. In 2026, it is expected to attract over 1,500 participants who are running or walking in memory of loved ones lost or in support of current military members and their families. This race offers something for everyone—from a simple mile run to the Tyson Double-Time Loop that covers nearly six miles. The course venue features a hard and dry surface, providing runners with clear paths along Memorial Park's well-maintained trails. A WWII Army jeep serves as the pace car, ensuring safety while adding historical context to the race route. Notable landmarks include a 'soldier statue' trophy placed at key points where military members can take photos and reflect on their service. The weather forecast for August 13th predicts an average temperature of 23°C with a slight risk of rain, bringing a comfortable feel despite high humidity levels around 74.2%.
