The fifth annual Friends and Zoey's Zoo Fun Run returns to the vibrant Edmonton Valley Zoo this year. Organized by the Valley Zoo Development Society, this family-friendly run aims to raise funds for various animal exhibits and conservation projects at the zoo. Last year’s event successfully supported the Harbour Seal, Golden Lion Tamarin, and Goeldi's Monkey habitats, as well as the carnivore project which focuses on enhancing Carnivore Alley. This year, participants will have another chance to contribute towards these initiatives by choosing from a variety of distances: 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km routes. The run begins and concludes in the heart of the zoo’s amphitheater, offering runners an up-close view of some of Edmonton Valley Zoo's most captivating exhibits. Participants can enjoy scenic paths that wind through lush greenery and past diverse wildlife habitats during their run. In addition to on-site participation, there is a virtual option for those who cannot make it in person but still wish to contribute. Virtual participants will have the flexibility to choose any distance from 1 km up to 10 km and receive a custom-designed finisher gift by mail as part of their registration package. Packet pickup dates are scheduled at South Edmonton Common Running Room on Saturday, September 12th between 12-3 pm and at Edmonton Valley Zoo on Sunday, September 13th from 12:30 to 1 pm. This event promises an engaging experience for all ages, combining physical activity with a meaningful cause that supports the well-being of animals in the zoo. Runners are invited to join this unique and rewarding community event where every step counts towards making a difference at Edmonton Valley Zoo. About Edmonton
Learn more about the host city, Edmonton.
Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta. Its metro area is home to 1.2 million people (2025), and is the northernmost city of at least one million people in North America, the fifth-largest city in Canada and the largest Canadian city farther than 200 kilometres (120 mi) from the US border. Edmonton is famous for its beautiful river valley park system, the North Saskatchewan River Valley, which offers over 100 kilometres (62 mi) of recreational trails, wildlife viewing, and city views. The river valley also contains many parks, including Fort Edmonton Park, Canada's largest historical park. If the great outdoors is not what you seek, the city also offers West Edmonton Mall, the largest shopping mall in North America. On top of that, Edmonton has a vibrant theatre community, a busy cycle of annual festivals, national sports teams active year-round, and wonderful winter recreational opportunities.
